A topper turns the bed into a closed box, and the roof of that box can carry gear that would otherwise ride inside. Without rails, a kayak, a ladder or a roll of lumber has nothing to tie down to. The Westin EXP Truck Cap Cross Rails give a bed topper two anodized aluminum rails, 43in long, held on powder-coated steel mounting feet. The kit comes with the hardware and instructions to fit onto the topper. Each rail carries up to 150 lbs, so loads are planned and not guessed.
