An older Tacoma still has plenty of trail miles left, and a restrictive air box is one of the first limits a driver notices. Filters that need frequent cleaning make that worse.
The K&N 77 Series replaces the factory air filter and intake tube with a mandrel-bent aluminum tube and an oversized oiled cotton filter. The filter needs cleaning only every 100,000 miles under normal highway driving, and installation does not void the vehicle warranty.
Remove the factory intake, fit the tube and filter, and tighten the clamps. Typical installation takes 60 minutes or less with simple hand tools.
