On a narrow switchback, turning in 4WD binds the front end, and the Jeep fights the turn. The TeraFlex NP231-J 2Low 2WD Low-Range Shift Sector Kit adds a low-range 2WD (rear-wheel-drive) option to the standard low-range shift pattern of the NP231-J transfer case. That allows tighter turns and removes most front-end bind. It is an internal modification that needs no external upgrades. Install the kit, and the transfer case has a 2Low position.
