A JK Wrangler's hardtop was never designed to carry a loaded roof rack. Clamping bars to the top or the gutters puts the load on fiberglass, which limits what can safely go up there and leaves a nagging worry on every rough road.
The Rhino-Rack Backbone runs an internal support frame inside the cabin of the 4-door JK. Three plates on each side of the hardtop connect to that frame, which carries the load through the vehicle structure and gives a maximum roof load rating of 120 kg (264 lb).
Fit the internal frames, bolt the mounting plates through the hardtop and add a 2-bar roof rack system, sold separately. The roof becomes a usable load space for the gear the trip needs.
